Dental fear

Many people experience discomfort, fear, anxiety and, in more severe cases, phobia to go to the dentist and dental hygienist.

Why one is afraid of dentistry can depend on several factors, such as age, gender, visiting habits in dentistry, previous painful experiences, the dentist’s interpretation of the situation, oral health and psychosocial factors. Often the dental fear has come after one or more traumatic dental experiences in childhood. Many tell of painful and unpleasant visits, that they did not feel listened to.

We know that individuals who fear dental care more often avoid dental care, which can result in greater treatment needs for them. Treatments that could have been avoided if the individual had come to us earlier.
